"Failed to verify username." I keep getting this when i try to login....

When i try to connect to the server it keeps saying "Failed to verify username." and sometime " End of Stream". Help pls...
Also minecraft has become very had to login to and it keeps saying " Can't connect to minecraft.net" but works after many tries, any ideas on how to fix this?
